Register for a Business Number with Revenue Canada. The Business Number (BN) is an account number assigned by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). You only need a BN if you require any one of the following business accounts:

- Payroll
- Corporate income tax
- Import/Export

If you will occupy commercial premises, contact the Regional Manager of Assessment at 485-4372 within one week of opening you business, in order to comply with Business Occupancy Tax legislation.

Contact the Pictou County District Planning Commission (755-1390) to check Zoning Laws & By-laws in your area to determine if the location for your business is zoned accordingly and to determine permit or licensing requirements.

Obtain insurance coverage for your business.

Open a current account with your bank, or lender, under the registered name.
