Highways
The Province of Nova Scotia is well served by an extensive series of arterial highways, designated the "100" series. The principal highway of the County is the 104 Trans Canada Highway which feeds into points throughout the United States and Canada. There are roughly 96.5 kms of Trans Canada highway passing through the centre of the County. TCH 104 links New Glasgow to Truro, Halifax, Moncton (and points West) on twinned highway and also links New Glasgow to Antigonish and Cape Breton.

Railways
Freight service is provided by the Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia Railway. This service operates seven days per week from Truro, Nova Scotia to Sydney, Nova Scotia and connects with the Canadian National Railway at Truro to provide access coast to coast.
Its principal cargos include coal, steel, paper and new freight cars, but can accompany common carriers anywhere in North America.

Passenger trains are operated by Via Rail. The nearest passenger train station is location in Truro, approximately 35 minutes from New Glasgow. There is daily train service to Halifax, Moncton and points west.

Bus Service
Interprovincial coach service is provided by Acadian Lines Ltd. and SMT Eastern, with direct express routes provided to many destinations within the province. There is an Acadian Lines Terminal in New Glasgow, with daily bus service to Antigonish, Cape Breton, Truro, Halifax, Amherst. There are interconnections at Amherst to SMT Ltd., which services New Brunswick, PEI and points west.
